We are thrilled to announce the first tranche of candidates

Delivering strong community champions and representing the needs of Islanders.

That’s the pledge from the Island Conservatives who have unveiled their first wave of candidates to stand in the 2025 Isle of Wight local elections.

Phase one of the candidate selection process is now complete, with candidates officially confirmed to contest their respective wards. A combination of experienced councillors and established community champions will deliver a wealth of professional expertise and community service.

Announcing the news, Clare Mosdell, Leader of the Conservative Group, said:

“We are thrilled to present this first tranche of candidates, who are deeply established in their communities with a unified and progressive vision for the Island. Together, they represent a dynamic team ready to champion local issues, support residents, and work in the best interests of the Island.”

The candidates announced in this phase include:

Brading & St Helens: Nick Binfield
Central Rural: Warren Drew
Cowes Medina: Oscar Bicket
Cowes South & Northwood: John Nicholson
Cowes West & Gurnard: Danielle Fleet
Freshwater South: Warren Whyte
Haylands & Swanmore: Vanessa Churchman
Lake North: Adrian Whittaker
Lake South: Paul Brading
Mountjoy & Shide: Martin Oliver
Nettlestone & Seaview: Harriet Hadfield
Newchurch, Havenstreet & Ashey: Raj Patel

Ryde South East: Sue Maddison
Sandown North: Joan Soloman
Sandown South: Ian Ward
Shanklin Central: Michael Beston
Shanklin South: Chris Quirk

The Conservative Party’s community-focused selection process ensures that every candidate is accessible, accountable, and committed to improving residents' quality of life, while delivering a clear strategic direction for the Isle of Wight.

Phase two of the selection process will conclude early next year, with the Conservatives set to deliver a strong team for the Island's electorate in the May 2025 elections.
