IW Council: Newport's Guildhall at the heart of new Island heritage plans

The Isle of Wight Council has unveiled its plans to establish a new County Record Office in the Guildhall, the landmark John Nash building in Newport High Street.In doing so, the Council hopes to be granted a new licence to hold public records and secure the future of these archives on the Island. A licence for public records has not been held by the local authority since 2003.

IW Council: Over 3,000 signatures on petition to re-open Chapel Street

The Newport Conservative Team have secured over 3,000 signatures in support of their petition to see Chapel Street re-opened to traffic flowing from New Street to St James’ Street. The petition, which also called for one way measures to improve safety on the bends in the road, was launched at the end of October.

IW Council: Conservatives will freeze council tax for third year running

No rise planned for 2013/14, due to extra government funding and additional savings at a local level. The majority Conservative Group at County Hall has announced its plans not to increase council tax for the third year in a row.

A review of ‘stupid’ late night drinking licences has been promised by prospective Police and Crime Commissioner Michael Mates.  He made his pledge after being told of the problems caused by allowing bars and clubs to stay open round the clock.

CCTV cameras could be brought in to catch troublemakers at the Isle of Wight’s skate park at Freshwater. The idea is one of many being proposed by prospective Police and Crime Commissioner Michael Mates who has pledged to use the latest technology to cut crime.

IW Council: Annual reports for Conservative members now available online

The annual reports (2011-12) of all 25 Conservative members of the Isle of Wight Council are now available online for viewing. These reports summarise what Conservative councillors have been doing for their wards over the past 12 months, along with activity at County Hall.
